You may have seen a MOVOS screen on a delivery rider’s bag. This notice explains, in plain language, what the screens sense and what they never do.
In short
MOVOS counts people. It doesn’t track them.
- Each screen reports its own location, so the right ad plays in the right neighbourhood.
- During each ad, the screen counts the devices in range. We report that only as a relative index, never as a headcount.
- MOVOS never identifies people, stores device IDs, builds retargeting audiences or sells device-level data.
What the screens sense
Where the screen is
Each unit uses GPS to report its own location. That’s how it plays the ad booked for the zone it’s in, and how we prove the ad ran. It’s the location of the screen, not of anyone walking past it.
How many devices are nearby
Phones and other wireless devices send out signals. During each ad, the unit picks up these signals to count the devices in range.
We report that count only as a relative index, never as a headcount. A device isn’t a person. Some people carry more than one device, some carry none, and phones change the identifiers they send out. That’s why the index compares plays rather than giving a headcount.
How bright it is
Each screen senses the light around it, so it can dim after dark and stay readable in the sun.
Cameras and microphones
MOVOS doesn’t use cameras or microphones to record the street or the people on it.
How the count is handled
Before any MOVOS screen counts devices on the street, we’ll add to this notice which signals the units read, what happens to them on the unit, and whether you can avoid being counted.
What MOVOS never does
- Identify people.
- Track where anyone goes.
- Collect names or advertising IDs from people on the street.
- Store device IDs.
- Build retargeting audiences, or follow you with ads online.
- Sell device-level data.
Why we count
Advertisers want proof that their ad ran, and a fair sense of how busy the street was when it did. A relative index gives them that without identifying anyone.
The QR code on each unit
Every MOVOS unit carries a QR code. It opens a short page about the screen that shows the unit’s number. We remove the unit number before counting the visit in our analytics, and movos.ca sets no cookies.
If you carry a MOVOS screen
Couriers who carry a unit should read our rider privacy notice. It explains what the unit reports while it’s on.
